Assiut University is one of the oldest and largest Egyptian universities; it was constructed in 1957; it is present in Assiut city with more than 3 million people, about 450 kilometers south of Cairo. Furthermore, their medical sector is one of the oldest and most prominent in upper Egypt, with over 3000 healthcare providers serving over 20 million people each year.

Our university’s medical sector significantly contributes to improving health outcomes and making meaningful changes in people's lives. Medical educational programmes and outstanding research meet the needs of modern healthcare and society. Undergraduate degrees were the Bachelor's as well as postgraduate master's and Ph. D. degrees in the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Faculty of Nursing, the South Egypt Cancer Institute (SECI) and the recently established  Faculty of Dentistry.

The Assiut university hospital shows a significant role in community development and improving health outcomes toward achieving the SDGs and Egyptian Vision 2030; The role of our University could be summarized in:

    1. Reducing maternal mortality; the University constructed a specialized hospital for women (Women's Hospital) in 2005, with 245 inpatient beds, 15 ICU beds and 13 emergency rooms. The hospital provides exceptional service through its excellent team in all the sub-specialties, which serves millions of the population of the south of Egypt. The hospital has succeeded in keeping its services all the yearlong, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, as it provided medical services in 2021 to more than 40,000 patients and did about 12,000 operations in different obstetrics and gynecological fields.

    1. To prevent deaths in the childhood and promote the health and wellbeing of our kids; the University constructed a particular hospital for children in 2004, with about 500 inpatient beds, 24 specialized units, ICU and intermediate care unit, neonate ICU units, more than ten specialized outpatient clinics and a vaccine unit that contributed to the notional vaccine program.

    1.  To fight against communicable diseases, our university know well its role in fighting against the most dangerous communicable diseases, especially in Egypt, was the highest prevalence of HCV in the world, so we constructed Rajhy liver hospital in 2014, which plays an important role in last two years in fight and vaccination Covid- 19.     2. To reduce morbidities and mortalitites from non-communicable diseases and promote health. Our Heart Hospital, built in 2016, is the largest specialized hospital in Upper Egypt in cardiovascular diseases and heart surgeries of all kinds and the leader in providing distinguished and high-quality health services, including leading medical cadres in this delicate specialization with the highest scientific degrees in diseases, heart surgeries, catheters, the diversity of surgeries and the ability to diagnose Correct and appropriate medical intervention and upgrading the health of the community in the field of heart diseases and surgeries.

1.5 To prevent and treat substance abuse our Neuropsychiatric and Neurosurgery Hospital has been operating since June 2013, Providing integrated health care for neurological, psychological, neurosurgery and addict patients at all levels (primary, secondary and specialized). Providing advanced and safe medical service accessible to all patients who are unable and able, taking into account quality standards. Providing educational, research and training services, taking into account the profession's ethics, workers' health, society and the environment. 1.6 To reduce morbidities and mortalities of road injuries, we understand our role in preventing and treating and decreasing road traffic accident mortality. The Emergency university hospital is under construction nowadays; it will be the biggest hospital in Egypt and is expected to provide emergency service to the whole upper Egypt population.
