Research Abstract

Visual Identity of a newspaper is one of the visual communication tools used to achieve its goals. Identity is usually located in the home page header of a website. Given the importance to the elements of the home page header in terms of formality and semantics in achieving visual construction of an electronic newspaper, the objective of the research is to reveal the effectiveness of designing the home page header in electronic sports newspapers to achieve a visual identity through the formal construction of the elements of the page header which is compatible with the intellectual content of the sports newspaper. This is a descriptive study, based on the survey methodologyand a content analysis tool in terms of format for four sports sites. The researcher relied on a one-month purposeful sample that started from 1st April and ended on 30th April 2017. The study reached a number of results, most notably the success of study sites in selecting sport-oriented names. The site name is chosen in line with trends and reference as a descriptive title for the electronic newspaper. The non-verbal symbols (logo and colors) used by the sports sites under study reflects meanings and indications that confirms the site's identity, the most frequently used of these symbols are those associated with the expression of activity and movement. The logo has been used in the framework of sports topics directly related to sport. The logo carries expressive energies that allow the embodiment of the site content on one hand, and to achieve attraction and influence on the other hand, as fundamental goals in the design process
